A J & R Scambler & Sons Ltd, normally known as Scamblers, are specialists in the supply of compact tractors, mowers, turfcare and groundscare machinery for every aspect of turf and grounds maintenance. Established almost 36 years ago and operating from spacious premises in the village of Bourn between Cambridge and St Neots, the company is rightly regarded as one of the market leaders in the industry.

The company began by selling and servicing mowers and tractors but quickly moved into importing products for distribution throughout the UK. In conjunction with this the company identified a market for good quality used equipment for customers not needing or wanting new machinery. This part of the business grew steadily and soon manufacturers became aware of the service and commitment given to their customers. John Deere were one of the first to appoint Scamblers as main dealers and others soon followed. They are now dealers for a wide range of prestige products.

Working closely with their customers, Scamblers could see that there were gaps in the range of products offered by their suppliers in the UK and to satisfy their customers' needs, started to import suitable products from abroad. They now import and distribute throughout the UK, a range of quality new and used products aimed at the groundscare market and are continually look ing for more.

Scamblers have always had an enviable reputation for looking after their customers' requirements. With a wide range of new products to offer, backed up by an even larger supply of used products, the company can cater for all their customers' needs. With ambitious plans for the future, the company will continue to set the pace in the industry.

Franchises are held for a variety of commercial products including John Deere, Muratori, Reform, Charterhouse and others, we also supply many quality used tractors, mowers and turfcare implements.

The staff in the company have between them over 100 years of experience in the industry. Customers are guaranteed to receive a prompt, efficient and friendly service.

Workshop
A well equipped workshop with factory trained engineers will ensure that maintenance is carried out with the minimum of delay.

Large stocks of new and quality used products are held to cater for all machinery and budgets, we stock a wide range from complete machines to the smallest components.

Personnel

Tony Scambler, managing director, is the driving force behind the company. On leaving school he completed a 3 year apprenticeship on a dairy farm before training as a a tailor, Tony then moved onto a Choppens a local horticulture business. After a few years  he was offered a position and joined a local haulage company to set up a horticultural and agricultural division. Obviously enjoying the business he left the haulage company some 36 years ago to set up his own horticultural business. Still very much involved with the business he is gradually handing over the reins to Ed and Dan. Outside of work, Tony indulges in his passion for motor cars.

Rosemary Scambler, married to Tony, is company secretary. Responsible for all the accounts including payments, invoicing and credit control, Rosemary's rule is crucial to the smooth running of the company. Her responsibilities mean that she sometimes has to keep other members of the family in check! The little spare time that Rosemary has is taken up with gardening and voluntary work for a local charity.

Ed Scambler is the oldest son and a director of the company. He is responsible for the day to day running of the company with a special responsibility for the web site and customer service issues. Married with two child he is a fanatical fisherman and enjoys nothing more than spending all night by a lake! His other passion is watching team sports of all varieties, especially if England is involved.

Dan Scambler is the youngest son and also a director of Scamblers. His training as a Volvo engineer on leaving school has equipped him well for his responsibilities which include service and spare parts. Like all employees of the company he has to turn his hand to most things and often gets involved in pre delivery inspections. Married with two children his hobbies include DIY and Formula One.

Peter Bancroft, 25 years as a green keeper and which included the maintenance of a wide variety golf course machinery Peter brings a wealth of experience both in the maintenance and use of all types of turfcare machinery. He’s now in charge of spare parts and maintenance departments. His hobbies include shooting and motor sports.

Paul Pickett  is a fully trained mechanic and auto election who brings over 25 years experience to our work shop. Hobbies include his allotment and watching football.

Gordon White (Chalky), sales rep with over 35years experience, he has a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of ground care equipment . His hobbies include his herd of Simmental cattle and his farm .

Reg Mills is our yard manager, his duties include keeping things ship shape around the yard and workshops. Hobbies include fishing and watching football.
